Recommended coverage of your space varies, based on your room size, room construction, sound source and more.  It's always best to call an Audimute acoustical expert (866-505-MUTE) before purchasing Acoustic Panels to ensure you will achieve your desired results.

When purchasing Deluxe Acoustic Wall Coverings for your space, we typically recommend around 35% coverage to maximize the effectiveness of the absorption product.  Applications like vocal booths or studios may require more than 35% coverage - more general applications (with lower decibel levels or higher frequency noise) may achieve satisfactory results with less than 35% coverage.  Again, please give us a call to determine the ideal level of absorption for your space!

Calculation to figure out how many wall coverings you'll need:

(Room Length x Room Width x % desired coverage)/ Acoustic Wall Covering sq. ft.

This will give you the number of Deluxe Acoustic Wall Coverings you'll need to achieve your desired results based on the degree of coverage you choose.  Play around with the coverage to see how you can achieve the best results while staying within your budget.

Acoustics is a science…but it’s also subjective!

Acoustics are considered by many to be an art. Everyone's taste is different. For recording, some artists and sound engineers enjoy a natural room sound while others prefer to add effects to the recording later in the mixing process. Drummers tune their kits differently for various styles of music. A rock band that practices in a garage may need more acoustic treatment if they have neighbors next door versus down the street.

The style of music also comes into play. For example, hip hop, known for producing low frequency, will require thicker layers of absorption and possibly even barrier products (Peacemaker, DB-Block, Mass Loaded Vinyl, etc). Jazz, on the other hand, typically may not produce the same sound pressure levels and only require sparse coverage on the walls of the garage.

Audimute's philosophy is not to over sell sound solutions.

Our recommendation is to take a phased-in approach and add product as needed to accomplish your acoustic goals. Don't hesitate to call our friendly professionals for assistance. We are a family business and glad to help.

Not only do Audimute Deluxe Wall Covers offer outstanding acoustic performance, but they are also manufactured from eco-C-tex, the GREENEST sound absorption material in today’s marketplace.  Eco-C-tex is an excellent alternative to acoustic foam tiles or fiberglass, made from natural cotton and renewable cellulose.

Why choose acoustic foam tiles when you can choose an safe, nontoxic acoustic solution?

Audimute Deluxe Acoustic Wall Coverings have an extremely impressive NRC rating of 0.75, outperforming acoustic foam tiles and other inexpensive sound absorption materials.  When you consider the fact that acoustic foam tiles require 40 times more energy to produce that Audimute Deluxe Wall Covers, it becomes clear that Audimute solutions not only help your acoustic environment, but the greater environment as well!  Not only are Deluxe Wall Covers a better alternative to acoustic foam tiles, but their benefits far outshine fiberglass acoustic products as well.  Nose and throat irritation is often a reaction to inhaled fiberglass fibers, not to mention fiberglass is considered to be a probable carcinogen by National Institutes of Health.

How do I know how much sound this product will absorb?

NRC ratings are one of the best ways to compare similar sound absorption products and determine which are most effective in absorbing sound at various frequencies.  The higher the NRC rating, the more effective the product.

Audimute Deluxe Wall Coverings have been tested and received an impressive .75 NRC, which means they can absorb up to 75% of the echoes and reverberation when installed correctly.
The chart below is pulled from the product's official Sound Lab Report and shows the ratings of Audimute Deluxe Wall Coverings at each of the most common frequencies.  To determine the overall NRC of Audimute Deluxe Wall Coverings, the NRC values at each tested frequency are averaged.

 125 Hz

4000
Avg. NRC
.07 NRC

 .75 NRC

.75 NRC

As you can see in the chart above (and on the official Sound Lab Report below), Audimute Deluxe Wall Coverings work extremely well in the mid to high frequency range, but not so well in the low frequency range.  Based on these results, we typically recommend absorption products for mid and high frequency applications, such as those dealing with noise from pianos, flutes, voices, etc.

How are NRC ratings determined?

Only products that have been tested in a controlled lab setting receive an NRC rating.  The process of determining a product's NRC involves testing its performance across some of the most common frequencies, then averaging the sum of these individual ratings to determine the product's overall NRC.  In general, an NRC of 0 means a product is perfectly reflective, whereas an NRC of 1 means the product is perfectly absorptive.

Another way to look at these ratings is as a percentage.  For example, if a product has an overall NRC of .75 (such as Audimute Deluxe Wall Coverings), the product is estimated to absorb up to 75% of the mid and high frequencies in a room.

NRC Depends on Proper Use & Installation

It's important to remember that the NRC of sound absorption products is determined based on proper use and installation.  If a product has not been installed following our recommended installation method, it may not be as effective.

Please feel free to give us a call at 866-505-MUTE if you have any questions regarding the installation requirements of a specific Audimute product.

Customer Reviews

I purchased the deluxe wall coverings, as well as absorption sheets to cover the common walls that we share with the duplex next door. The peacemaker was used as a liner (along with some 1" soundproofing foam) to seal the built-in bookshelves in the living room. What a difference your products have made in reducing the noise coming through the wall from next door! - Nancy
