I use the drum rings on a performance drumset. The modified sound the mutes provide cut out dissonant overtones. This gives the drum a full sound no matter the wood.

I use a 9 piece set of vintage Tama Imperialstar concert toms that have constantly been of source or aggravation as they ring and have annoying overtones. Hard to tune & hard to record. Replacement heads were another option but were costly and not guaranteed to work. Your product did perfectly! I highly recommend them.
