Recommended coverage of your space varies, based on your room size, room construction, sound source and more.  It's always best to call an Audimute acoustical expert (866-505-MUTE) before purchasing Acoustic Panels to ensure you will achieve your desired results.

When purchasing Audimute's eco-C-tex Panels for your space, we typically recommend around 25% coverage to maximize the effectiveness of the absorption product.  Applications like vocal booths or studios may require more than 25% coverage - more general applications (with lower decibel levels or higher frequency noise) may achieve satisfactory results with less than 25% coverage.  Again, please give us a call to determine the ideal level of absorption for your space!

Compare Audimute eco-C-tex Panels to Foam & Fiberglass Panels

Audimute eco-C-tex Panels:

Foam & Fiberglass Paneling:

  • Naturally made from recyclables, no harmful man-made fibers
  • Non-Earth Friendly
  • Safe for all applications, Non-irritating alternative to fiberglass
  • Difficult to handle, May irritate skin upon contact
  • Extremely high Noise Reduction Coefficient that makes it more effective than fiberglass in controlling air borne sound transmission
  • Lower Noise Reduction Coefficient, less effective than natural solution
  • Helps reduce landfill waste, consumes less energy
  • Consumes more energy to manufacture

Calculation to figure out how many panels you'll need:

(Room Length x Room Width x % desired coverage)/ Acoustic Panel sq. ft.

Example: 10'x10' Room - (10x10x.25)/8 = 3.125 = Need (3) 2x4 Panels
                10'x10' Room - (10x10x.25)/4 = 6.25 = Need (6) 2x2 Panels

This will give you the number of eco-C-tex Panels you'll need to achieve your desired results based on the degree of coverage you choose.  Play around with the coverage to see how you can achieve the best results while staying within your budget.

GO GREEN with Audimute's eco-C-tex, the GREENEST sound absorption technology in today's marketplace! eco-C-tex blends natural cotton and renewable cellulose fibers (the majority of which is post-consumer recycled newspaper!) in a process that produces ZERO landfill waste and requires 1/10 of the energy to produce compared to traditional fiberglass.

So why choose man-made fiberglass, dubbed as the next asbestos by many? Exposure to airborne fiberglass particles or direct contact with the product can cause skin, eye, nose and throat irritation and itching. Coughing is also a reaction to inhaled fibers. What’s more, fiberglass is considered to be a probable carcinogen by National Institutes of Health. Fiberglass product packages display cancer warning labels unlike cotton panels that do not require this warning. These labels are required by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) based on determinations made by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the National Toxicology Program (NTP).

Be good to yourself and your environment!  Choose eco-C-tex, the natural and safe acoustic solution - a better alternative to fiberglass and foam.

Technical Specs for eco-C-tex

Audimute Natural eco-C-tex Acoustical Panels are the perfect solution for reverberant noise in large spaces. Adding acoustical panels to the room will reduce reflected sound thereby dampening the echo and reverberation, creating an appropriate acoustic environment. Audimute natural eco-C-tex acoustical wall panels offer excellent acoustic absorption properties. The semi-rigid panels do not use our typical panel frame. Sides and edges may be roughly finished; because of the nature of the recycled material used in eco-C-tex, some color variation is to be expected. Effective use of eco-C-tex sound absorbing technology will substantially reduce volume levels and improve the acoustics of any space.

The NRC rating is an average of how absorptive a material is at six of the most common frequencies (125, 250, 500, 1000, 2000 and 4000 Hz). This industry standard ranges from zero (perfectly reflective) to 1 (perfectly absorptive). It is always expressed as a decimal rounded to the nearest 5%.

eco-C-tex Absorption Material:

  • The GREENEST acoustic material in today's marketplace?
  • Composed of a blend of recycled cotton and cellulose fibers (the majority of which is post-consumer recycled newspaper!)
  • A better alternative to traditional fiberglass & synthetic acoustic panels
  • By converting recycled paper into cellulose fibers used in eco-C-tex, the paper is kept out of landfills where it has the potential to pollute the environment. Because eco-C-tex material is completely recyclable, no scrap is produced during production of the product. The eco-C-tex manufacturing process uses 1/10 of the energy than fiberglass insulation, and 1/40 of the energy than foam insulation.
  • U.L. Class A Rating per ASTM E-84 flame and smoke standards
  • Completely Safe and Non-Toxic
  • NRC Rating = .95

Sound Lab Report

How do I know how much sound this product will absorb?

NRC ratings are one of the best ways to compare similar sound absorption products and determine which are most effective in absorbing sound at various frequencies.  The higher the NRC rating, the more effective the product.

Audimute eco-C-tex Panels have been tested and received an impressive .95 NRC, which means they can absorb up to 95% of the echoes and reverberation when installed correctly.
The chart below is pulled from the product's official Sound Lab Report and shows the ratings of Audimute Acoustic Panels at each of the most common frequencies.  To determine the overall NRC of Audimute Acoustic Panels, the NRC values at each tested frequency are averaged.

As you can see in the chart above (and on the official Sound Lab Report below), Audimute Acoustic Panels work extremely well in the mid to high frequency range, but not so well in the low frequency range.  Based on these results, we typically recommend absorption products for mid and high frequency applications, such as those dealing with noise from pianos, flutes, voices, etc.

How are NRC ratings determined?

Only products that have been tested in a controlled lab setting receive an NRC rating.  The process of determining a product's NRC involves testing its performance across some of the most common frequencies, then averaging the sum of these individual ratings to determine the product's overall NRC.  In general, an NRC of 0 means a product is perfectly reflective, whereas an NRC of 1 means the product is perfectly absorptive.

Another way to look at these ratings is as a percentage.  For example, if a product has an overall NRC of .95 (such as Audimute Acoustic Panels), the product is estimated to absorb up to 95% of the mid and high frequencies in a room.

NRC Depends on Proper Use & Installation

It's important to remember that the NRC of sound absorption products is determined based on proper use and installation.  If a product has not been installed following our recommended installation method, it may not be as effective.

Please feel free to give us a call at 866-505-MUTE if you have any questions regarding the installation requirements of a specific Audimute product.

Below are the official sound lab reports for Audimute's Natural and Coated eco-C-tex Panels.
