Choose Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets for your next sound project whether it's a closet vocal booth or a studio sound proofing job.

Refer to the table below to determine how much product to order. Keep in mind double layering the sheets will provide best results. (Audimute does not recommend cutting the sheets. Instead, sheets can easily be folded to fit your personal size requirements.) From a 4' x 4' room (a perfect closet vocal booth) to a 12' x 14' room or larger (larger studio sound proofing), Audimute has you covered!

Although there is a great deal of science behind acoustics, for many applications sound is subjective. It is considered by many to be an art. Everyone's taste is different. For recording, some artists and sound engineers enjoy a natural room sound while others prefer to add effects to the recording later in the mixing process. Drummers tune their kits differently for various styles of music. A rock band that practices in a garage may need more acoustic treatment if they have neighbors next door versus down the street.

The style of music also comes into play. For example, hip hop, known for producing low frequency, will require thicker layers of absorption and possibly even barrier products (Peacemaker, DB-Block, Mass Loaded Vinyl, etc). Jazz, on the other hand, typically may not produce the same sound pressure levels and only require sparse coverage on the walls of the garage.

Audimute's philosophy is not to over sell sound solutions. Our recommendation is to take a phased-in approach and add product as needed to accomplish your acoustic goals. Don't hesitate to call our friendly professionals for assistance. We are a family business and glad to help.

Vocal Booth

Cover all dense surface areas with double layer of sheets (single layer may be used but will not be as effective). Keep in mind that Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets are rated for sound absorption not isolation. However, for many applications they do provide enough isolation for recording vocals when a structure (closet vocal booth, small room) already exists. Ensure your vocal booth is as airtight as possible by using weather stripping, door seal around any doors and an airtight sweep/threshold if need be for the bottom of the door.

Drums

Double layer is recommended due to the wide frequency range of the instrument coupled with high sound pressure levels. Treat right angles (corners) with bass traps. Long Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets (8' x 3') are the preferred choice as they cover the entire wall space.

Garage

Typically a two car garage will need 24 sheets. The more area covered, the better. Peacemaker, another product we manufacture for low frequency isolation, may also come into play, but only in about 25% of our garage projects, usually insulation of thin doors, drywall, floors and more.

The sheets will cancel most of the mid and high frequencies and make neighbors and house mates happy. Some lows will persist, but the nuisance frequencies will be reduced substantially.

Audimute will not only make your neighbors happy by reducing the amount of sound leaving the practice space, but there is a substantial secondary benefit... Simply put, Audimute makes for better music and musicianship. It enables musicians to hear their music in incredible detail (i.e. mistakes, buried in acoustic deflections, will now be heard clearly, etc.). It quickly puts an end to the musical "shouting contest" many bands experience as musicians increase their volume and intensity only to hear themselves. The quality of practice time will be substantially increased and enable a band to focus on musical dynamics. In a short time, there will be noticeable improvements in timing, tune, tone and instrumental technique, etc. while creating an audibly safe environment.

Window

Select enough material to cover window, preferably in double layer. Fold sheets for smaller windows if necessary.

Apartment

Our product is most often used on both sides of the wall (in other words, covering the shared wall in both rooms). You would want to cover both sides of the wall and if possible (budget allowing) in double layer.

GO GREEN with Audimute sound absorbing drapery material

Not only do Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets offer outstanding acoustic performance, but they are also manufactured from recycled cotton natural fibers, reducing landfill waste. Audimute's inexpensive sound absorbtion material is safe and non-toxic.

So why choose man-made fiberglass, dubbed as the next asbestos by many? Exposure to airborne fiberglass particles or direct contact with the product can cause skin, eye, nose and throat irritation and itching. Coughing is also a reaction to inhaled fibers. What’s more, fiberglass is considered to be a probable carcinogen by National Institutes of Health.  Fiberglass product packages display cancer warning labels unlike Audimute's cotton inexpensive sound absorbtion material that do not require this warning. These labels are required by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) based on determinations made by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and the National Toxicology Program (NTP).

Be good to yourself and your environment, choose Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets, the natural and safe acoustic solution, a better alternative to fiberglass.

How do I know how much sound this product will absorb?

NRC ratings are one of the best ways to compare similar sound absorption products and determine which are most effective in absorbing sound at various frequencies.  The higher the NRC rating, the more effective the product.

How are NRC ratings determined?

Only products that have been tested in a controlled lab setting receive an NRC rating.  The process of determining a product's NRC involves testing its performance across some of the most common frequencies, then averaging the sum of these individual ratings to determine the product's overall NRC.  In general, an NRC of 0 means a product is perfectly reflective, whereas an NRC of 1 means the product is perfectly absorptive.

Another way to look at these ratings is as a percentage.  For example, if a product has an overall NRC of .70 (such as Audimute Absorption Sheets), the product is estimated to absorb up to 70% of the mid and high frequencies in a room.

NRC Depends on Proper Use & Installation

It's important to remember that the NRC of sound absorption products is determined based on proper use and installation.  If a product has not been installed following our recommended installation method, it may not be as effective.

In general, sound absorption products achieve poor NRC ratings in the low frequency ranges, but do extremely well absorbing mid and high frequencies.  Based on these results, we typically recommend absorption products for mid and high frequency applications, such as those dealing with noise from pianos, flutes, voices, etc.

Please feel free to give us a call at 866-505-MUTE if you have any questions regarding the installation requirements of a specific Audimute product.

Customer Reviews

This is just a note from a return customer to thank you for offering such a wonderful and simple solution to acoustic problems in the studio. I recently purchased four sound absorbing sheets and mega clips for my small bedroom studio. I noticed an improvement instantly with respect to early reflections and absorption. Still, a window was left uncovered and allowed the cacophonous sounds of leaf blowers and other noise to essentially render my recording opportunities to nill. I was determined to order round two of the trusted sound absorbing sheets, and I will double the thickness at the window so I can get some acoustic guitar tracks recorded. I may never get total isolation, but I am bound to get improvement, thanks to your product. I plan to use the remaining sheets perhaps for recording drums, placing one inside the kick (it may do its job too well..) Thanks again for such an affordable product that delivers what it promises. -Craig, Long Island, New York

I play in a band that practices in an area that needs to be sound proofed for the sake of being productive at higher volumes without disturbing our neighbors. I purchased the sound absorption blankets to drape and separate our practice area from living spaces. I give them 5 stars for getting the job done!

As VP of Operations, it's my job to make sure computers are working, check that the coffee maker is producing at peak performance as well as to keep a safe and productive environment with minimal interference. After much research, I was confident that with the Audimute Sound Absorption Sheets and a few late hours, I could create a functional space at about 1/10th of the cost of the competition. With about $50 worth of material, I was able to drastically reduce the echo in our molding and avoid making holes in the 80+ year old plaster- something that could easily have costed $500 if purchased elsewhere.

For the best of my mixes, a great sounding room is a big priority. Audimute has provided me with a great product for a great price. The Absorption Sheets have made a huge improvement in my vocal booth.

Very cost effective and easy to work with.

One important thing to remember is that the frequency absorption spectrum can be shifted down if you hang the sheets away from the wall. So you get better low frequency characteristics and equal mid/high absorption.

Audimute Absorption Sheet covers my door to block out hallway noise in an apartment complex. It is very effective at keeping noises inside from disturbing other tenants.
